Florida ska-punk veterans Less Than Jake have released a 30th anniversary reissue of their classic album Losing Streak.

Florida ska-punk veterans Less Than Jake have released a 30th anniversary reissue of their classic album Losing Streak. The new edition arrives on vinyl and marks three decades since the influential record helped cement the band’s reputation in the 1990s punk and ska scenes.

Originally released in 1996, Losing Streak was the group’s second studio album and their first major-label release after signing with Capitol Records. The record showcased the band’s energetic mix of ska rhythms, punk rock aggression, and humor-filled songwriting, a style that would become a defining characteristic of their sound throughout the decade.

The album includes many fan-favorite tracks that became staples of the band’s catalog, including “Automatic,” “Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts,” “Jen Doesn’t Like Me Anymore,” and “Ask the Magic 8 Ball.” Its fast-paced songs and playful lyrics helped the band gain a larger audience as the third-wave ska movement was gaining momentum during the mid-1990s.

Recorded in Florida at Criteria Studios in Miami and Mirror Image Studios in Gainesville, the album featured the lineup of guitarist and vocalist Chris DeMakes, bassist and vocalist Roger Lima, drummer and lyricist Vinnie Fiorello, trombonist Buddy Schaub, and saxophonists Jessica Mills and Derron Nuhfer. The recording balanced the punchy instrumentation of punk rock with the horn-driven elements that defined the band’s ska influence.

Although the anniversary pressing appears to be largely a straight reissue, the vinyl release offers fans a chance to revisit one of the band’s most beloved albums in a collectible format. The re-release celebrates a record that played a key role in shaping the band’s rise during the late 1990s.

More than three decades after forming in Gainesville, Florida, Less Than Jake remain active performers and recording artists. Albums like Losing Streak and its follow-up Hello Rockview helped establish the band as one of the most recognizable acts in ska-punk, influencing countless bands that followed.
