Western Addiction Drop Ferocious New Video “The Diamond,” Announce Upcoming Album
San Francisco punk veterans Western Addiction have returned with a brand-new single titled “The Diamond,” offering the first taste of their upcoming studio album and signaling the band’s latest chapter in modern hardcore punk.
The track arrives as the lead preview of the group’s forthcoming album Psychedelic Munitions, which is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. The new single captures the band’s signature blend of melodic hardcore energy, sharp riffs, and socially aware lyricism, delivering a fast-paced song that reflects the urgency and intensity that have long defined their sound.
According to the band, the album took several years of careful work to complete. Members explained that they approach songwriting slowly and deliberately, focusing on crafting songs they genuinely believe in rather than rushing out new material. The extended process allowed them to refine the record’s themes and musical direction while maintaining the raw energy that fans expect from the band.
Lyrically, the upcoming album explores a wide range of topics including wealth inequality, social injustice, mental health struggles, and broader critiques of modern capitalism. The band described the songs as character-driven stories inspired by contemporary issues, reflecting what they see as a turbulent moment in modern society.
Musically, Psychedelic Munitions is expected to expand on Western Addiction’s established hardcore punk style while introducing more melody and tighter song structures. The band noted that the album features shorter, more immediate tracks while still experimenting with different sonic elements—including unconventional influences that push beyond straightforward punk formulas.
Recording for the album was handled by producer and engineer Scott Evans, known for his work with bands such as Kowloon Walled City, while mastering duties were completed by Brad Boatright of Audiosiege. The album will also include a spoken-word introduction from Clifford Dinsmore, known for his work with Bl’ast! and Seized Up.
